Submissions
Screentest would be nothing without the films submitted by UK students that get shown at our festival. Every year we receive large numbers of great content, most of which are shown at some point during the weekend.
The main guidelines:
- Entrants must attend a UK-based university or college or have been attending a UK institution whilst the bulk of the film was being made. Postgraduates are welcome to submit.
- Films must be no more than 20 minutes in length, or 30 minutes for documentaries. Remember this is a short film festival; generally less really is more.
- Films must not break any copyright laws. This usually means music. Any music must be either unlicensed or have the permission of the artist that created it. As the films are shown publicly we can’t legally show films with music from signed bands who haven’t given their permission so if your film has copyrighted music you need to either approach the artist or edit a new score.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a completed and signed entry form. This doubles as our contract with you for distribution of the film, so please read it carefully.
- You may enter more than one film, and can use the same tape for more than one film if you wish.
- You must include a separate entry form for each film you submit.
- If you want your tape returned you must include a stamped addressed envelope.
- The deadline for submissions is January 31st 2008. Films submitted after this date will not be considered for awards.
- Films should be submitted as a PAL recording on a mini-DV tape. It is helpful if the film is preceded on the tape by a few seconds of black. You may also submit on a DVD or .avi file though we recommend mini-DV tape.
- Submitted films will be watched by a selection panel to decide if they are suitable for inclusion in the festival. We will let you know if your film has been accepted. By submitting your film you also consent to it being screened by any part of the Screentest Distribution Network. We usually send out DVDs containing the best of films to universities and sponsors, and this year content will be shown on our partner Sub TV website.
