Schedule

Welcome to the Screentest 2010 Schedule.

This year’s schedule boasts an eclectic mix of student films from across the country. This year we have tried to include in our programme as many of the student films submitted as possible, as one of Screentest’s core aims is to create a platform where students can screen their work amongst other like-minded students. We have also changed how we screen the films as previously student screenings were screened by genre. To get more people watching different styles of movies we decided to mix it up a bit. We have named the screenings after planets as there are nine reels and nine planets, and as the Screentest logo is a star we wanted to continue with the celestial theme.

Another aim that we are keen to encourage this year is one of networking and collarboration; to connect students to the industry and with each other. The inclusion of the networking event and fair is to reflect this aim. We are delighted to have the support of the London Film Academy, Shorts International, Chair of Bristol Media, Encounters Short Film Festival and the Bristol University Film and Television Programme who are all keen to reach out to the student filmmaking community.

This event is not only to encourage students to network with industry professionals but also to encourage networking and collaboration with each other. Last summer students from across the country came together in July to found The National Student Film Association which is an organisation that actively supports and promotes the watching and making of student films. It also aims to create opportunities for students to network and collaborate with each other across the country. As Screentest became the organisation’s official film festival and the flagship event it is at Screentest 2010 that we shall start this encouragement of collaboration. Screentest also hosts the NSFA Annual General Meeting where delegates can find out more about the organisation, become a member and contribute to forming development ideas of the organisation.

We are also delighed to host the BAFTA nominated Live Action and Animated Short Films at the event once again, with Q&A by nominated animated filmmaker Emma Lazenby. BAFTA are a longstanding Screentest supporter and their support and involvement of the festival each year gives us the chance to bring Britain’s biggest film organisation that much nearer to our delegates.

Encounters Short Film Festival are a new inclusion to the festival programme. It is important for us to have the Encounters 2009 winner’s screened at the festival as we feel that Encounters is a festival that our delegates aspire to have their films screened at. The opportunity to show our delegates what is winning at the biggest short film festival in the country encourages them to make better films and continue to raise the bar for student filmmaking.

We hope you enjoy this year’s festival, at the very least the bar will be open for the majority of it…
